These air fryer garlic knots are crispy on the outside, soft and buttery on the inside, made quickly with simple ingredients and perfect for any occasion.

  • 2 cups (240 g) all-purpose flour
  • 2 ¼ tsp (one packet) instant yeast
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • ¾ cup (180 ml) warm water (about 110°F / 43°C)
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 4 tbsp (60 g) unsalted butter, melted
  • 4 cloves fresh garlic, minced finely
  • 2 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped (optional)
  • 2 tbsp grated Parmesan cheese (optional)

Instructions

  1. Activate the yeast: In a large bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and instant yeast. Stir lightly and let sit for 5-7 minutes until foamy.
  2. Make the dough: Add flour, salt, and olive oil to the yeast mixture. Stir until a shaggy dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough: Turn dough onto a floured surface and knead for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic. Add flour if sticky but avoid overdoing it.
  4. Let the dough rest: Place dough in a bowl, cover with a towel, and let rise in a warm spot for 30 minutes until doubled in size.
  5. Preheat the air fryer to 350°F (175°C) for 3-5 minutes.
  6. Shape the knots: Punch down dough and divide into 12 equal pieces. Roll each into a 6-inch rope and tie into a loose knot.
  7. Prepare garlic butter: Mix melted butter, minced garlic, and chopped parsley in a small bowl.
  8. Brush knots with garlic butter and place in a single layer in the air fryer basket. Cook at 350°F (175°C) for 8-10 minutes, flipping halfway and brushing again.
  9. Optional: Sprinkle grated Parmesan cheese on knots while still warm.
  10. Serve warm immediately for best texture and flavor.

Notes

Do not overcrowd the air fryer basket to ensure even cooking. Brush garlic butter before cooking and halfway through for best flavor. Let shaped knots rest an additional 10 minutes before air frying for puffier texture if desired. Use perforated parchment paper to prevent sticking without blocking airflow. For gluten-free, use gluten-free flour blend; for vegan, substitute butter with vegan margarine or olive oil and omit Parmesan or use vegan cheese.
