This Cinnamon Apple Puff Pastry Braid is a stunning yet simple dessert featuring sweet cinnamon-spiced apples wrapped in buttery, flaky pastry. Perfect for impressing guests or indulging in a cozy treat.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 sheet of pre-made puff pastry, thawed
  • 2 medium-sized apples, peeled, cored, and thinly sliced (Granny Smith recommended)
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon butter, melted
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • Powdered sugar (optional, for dusting or glaze)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine the sliced apples, brown sugar, granulated sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and melted butter. Toss until the apples are evenly coated.
  3. Roll out your thawed puff pastry slightly to ensure it’s even. Place it on the prepared baking sheet.
  4. Visualize the puff pastry in thirds: the middle section will hold the apple filling, and the two side sections will be braided.
  5. Spoon the apple mixture onto the center third of the puff pastry, arranging the slices neatly.
  6. Using a knife or pizza cutter, cut diagonal strips into the two side sections of the puff pastry, about 1 inch apart.
  7. Starting from the top, fold the strips over the apple filling alternately, creating a braided pattern.
  8. Brush the entire braid with the beaten egg to ensure a golden finish when baked.
  9. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until the puff pastry is golden brown and flaky.
  10. Let the braid cool for 10 minutes before serving. Dust with powdered sugar or drizzle with a light icing if desired.

Notes

Keep the puff pastry cold to prevent it from becoming too soft. Thin, uniform apple slices ensure even cooking. Generously brush the egg wash for a golden finish. Customize spices or add nuts for extra flavor.
