Crispy fried halloumi bites drizzled with sticky honey and kissed with chili flakes, offering a perfect balance of salty, sweet, and heat. A quick, flavorful snack that’s perfect for entertaining or casual get-togethers.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 ounces (225 grams) firm block-style halloumi cheese
  • 2 tablespoons honey (preferably raw or wildflower)
  • 1 teaspoon chili flakes (adjust to taste)
  • 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil (or vegetable oil)
  • 1 teaspoon fresh lemon juice (optional)
  • Small handful of chopped fresh parsley or mint (optional)

Instructions

  1. Cut the block of halloumi into bite-sized cubes or thick slices, about 1-inch (2.5 cm) pieces. Pat them dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture. (Approx. 5 minutes)
  2. Place a medium-sized skillet over medium heat and add 2 tablespoons of olive oil. Let it warm until shimmering but not smoking. (3-4 minutes)
  3. Carefully add the halloumi pieces in a single layer without crowding the pan. Fry for about 2-3 minutes per side, turning with tongs, until each piece is golden brown and crispy. Work in batches if needed. (8-10 minutes)
  4. Transfer the fried halloumi to a plate lined with paper towels to soak up any extra oil.
  5. In a small bowl, mix 2 tablespoons honey with 1 teaspoon chili flakes and 1 teaspoon lemon juice. Stir until combined. (2 minutes)
  6. Arrange the crispy halloumi bites on a serving plate. Drizzle the honey and chili mixture evenly over the top. Optionally, sprinkle fresh chopped parsley or mint.
  7. Serve immediately while still warm and crispy.

Notes

Pat halloumi dry before frying to ensure crispiness. Fry in batches to avoid overcrowding the pan. Add honey and chili drizzle just before serving to keep bites crispy. Reheat briefly in a pan if bites lose crispiness before serving. For a dairy-free alternative, use firm tofu pressed and fried similarly.
