A simple and festive snack featuring fresh cranberries coated in a vanilla-infused sugar syrup, perfect for holiday gatherings and garnishes.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 12 oz (340 g) fresh cranberries
  • 1 cup (200 g) granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp (5 ml) pure vanilla extract
  • 1/3 cup (80 ml) water
  • Optional: powdered sugar for dusting

Instructions

  1. Rinse and dry the cranberries thoroughly to help the syrup stick better.
  2. In a medium saucepan, combine granulated sugar, water, and vanilla extract. Heat over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until sugar dissolves and mixture begins to simmer gently.
  3. Remove syrup from heat and add cranberries. Stir gently to coat all berries and let sit for 1-2 minutes.
  4. Using a slotted spoon or fine mesh sieve, scoop cranberries out of syrup, letting excess drip off.
  5. Transfer cranberries to a mixing bowl with about 1 cup granulated sugar and toss gently to coat evenly.
  6. Spread sugared cranberries in a single layer on a parchment-lined baking sheet and let dry at room temperature for at least 1 hour until sugar coating is dry and crunchy.
  7. Optionally, dust with powdered sugar before serving for a softer, frosted look.

Notes

Use firm, fresh cranberries for best results. Toss cranberries in sugar in small batches to avoid clumping. Let cranberries dry fully at room temperature for a crunchy sugar shell. Store in an airtight container to keep sugar coating crisp. Optionally dust with powdered sugar for a softer finish.
