These easy mini flag Caprese skewers with balsamic glaze are a quick, colorful, and crowd-pleasing appetizer perfect for parties and casual gatherings.

Ingredients

  • Ciliegine mozzarella balls (small mozzarella balls, preferably fresh and packed in water)
  • Cherry tomatoes (ripe, firm, and vibrant red)
  • Fresh basil leaves (small, tender leaves)
  • Balsamic glaze (store-bought or homemade)
  • Extra virgin olive oil (about 1 tablespoon)
  • Salt (to taste)
  • Freshly ground black pepper (to taste)
  • Mini skewers or toothpicks (about 3-inch length)

Instructions

  1. Rinse and dry cherry tomatoes and fresh basil leaves thoroughly.
  2. In a medium bowl, combine mozzarella balls and cherry tomatoes. Drizzle with about 1 tablespoon of extra virgin olive oil, sprinkle with salt and freshly ground black pepper, and toss gently to coat evenly.
  3. Take a mini skewer or toothpick and thread on one cherry tomato first, followed by a fresh basil leaf (folded if large), then a mozzarella ball. Repeat for all skewers.
  4. Arrange the assembled skewers side by side on a serving platter, keeping the ‘flag’ pattern visible (tomato, basil, mozzarella).
  5. Drizzle balsamic glaze evenly over the skewers using a small spoon or squeeze bottle, applying thin lines rather than pools.
  6. Optionally, add a light sprinkle of salt or a few twists of black pepper. Serve immediately for best flavor and texture.

Notes

Assemble skewers just before serving to avoid sogginess. Drizzle balsamic glaze right before serving. Store assembled skewers in an airtight container lined with paper towels in the refrigerator for up to 4 hours. For vegan variation, substitute mozzarella with marinated tofu cubes or vegan cheese and use honey-free balsamic glaze.
