A quick and easy homemade popcorn seasoning mix combining spicy sriracha and tangy lime for a bold, fun snack perfect for movie nights and casual gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • ½ cup popcorn kernels
  • 1 tablespoon powdered sriracha seasoning (or mix of chili powder and cayenne)
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • ½ teaspoon fine sea salt
  • ½ teaspoon granulated sugar
  • Zest of 1 lime
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lime juice
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil or melted butter

Instructions

  1. Heat 2 tablespoons (30 ml) of olive oil or melted butter in a large heavy-bottomed pot over medium-high heat.
  2. Add ½ cup (100 g) popcorn kernels and cover with the lid slightly ajar to let steam escape.
  3. Shake the pot occasionally to prevent burning. Popcorn should start popping within 2-3 minutes.
  4. When popping slows to 2-3 seconds between pops, remove from heat (about 5 minutes).
  5. In a small bowl, combine powdered sriracha, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, sea salt, granulated sugar, and lime zest. Whisk to blend evenly.
  6. In another small bowl, whisk together fresh lime juice and olive oil or melted butter.
  7. Transfer popped popcorn to a large mixing bowl. Drizzle the lime-oil mixture evenly over the popcorn, tossing gently but thoroughly until coated.
  8. Sprinkle the dry seasoning mix over the popcorn in small batches, tossing continuously to distribute flavor without clumping.
  9. Let the popcorn sit for 5 minutes to absorb the flavors before serving.

Notes

Use fresh lime zest and juice for best flavor. Add liquids gradually to avoid soggy popcorn. Adjust heat by varying powdered sriracha. Store leftover seasoning mix in an airtight container for up to a month.
