A quick and easy appetizer featuring creamy goat cheese and warm honey drizzled over crisp toasted bread, perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • Baguette or French bread, sliced into 1/2-inch pieces (can use gluten-free baguette)
  • 4 ounces (115 g) goat cheese (chèvre), softened
  • 2 tablespoons (30 ml) honey, preferably raw or wildflower
  • 1 tablespoon (15 ml) extra virgin olive oil
  • Fresh thyme leaves, a few sprigs (optional)
  • Cracked black pepper, to taste
  • Sea salt, light sprinkle (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Slice the baguette into 1/2-inch (1.3 cm) slices, keeping them even.
  3. Brush one side of each bread slice with 1 tablespoon (15 ml) olive oil and lightly sprinkle with sea salt if desired.
  4. Arrange the slices oil-side up on a baking sheet and bake for 7-9 minutes until golden and crisp at the edges.
  5. While the bread toasts, place goat cheese in a bowl and stir to soften and make it spreadable. Add a splash of milk or cream if too stiff.
  6. Once the crostini are cool enough to handle, spread about 1 tablespoon (15 g) of goat cheese on each slice.
  7. Drizzle about 1/2 teaspoon (2.5 ml) of warm or room temperature honey over each crostini, adjusting to taste.
  8. Garnish with fresh thyme leaves and cracked black pepper.
  9. Serve immediately while the bread is still crisp.

Notes

Warm the honey slightly before drizzling for easier spreading. Do not overcrowd the baking sheet to ensure even toasting. Let goat cheese sit at room temperature for a few minutes or microwave briefly to soften. Assemble crostini just before serving to keep bread crisp. Variations include adding toasted nuts, fresh figs, or a drizzle of chili oil.
