Easter nests recipe - featured image

Crunchy chow mein noodles combined with melty semi-sweet chocolate and colorful candy eggs create a quick, festive, and irresistible Easter treat perfect for families and holiday gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups (about 100g) crunchy chow mein noodles
  • 1 ½ cups (270g) semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 2 tablespoons (28g) butter
  • 1 cup (150g) mini candy eggs
  • Pinch of sea salt (optional)

Instructions

  1. Melt the chocolate and butter: Combine 1 ½ cups (270g) semi-sweet chocolate chips and 2 tablespoons (28g) butter in a microwave-safe bowl. Heat in 20-second intervals, stirring well between each, until fully melted and smooth (about 1 to 1.5 minutes).
  2. Prepare chow mein noodles: Measure out about 4 cups (100g) crunchy chow mein noodles and place them in a large mixing bowl.
  3. Combine noodles with chocolate: Pour the melted chocolate mixture over the chow mein noodles. Gently fold with a spatula or large spoon until all noodles are evenly coated.
  4. Shape the nests: Line a baking tray with parchment paper. Using a spoon, scoop out clusters of coated noodles and form small nest shapes by pressing the center down to create a well, about 2 to 3 inches wide.
  5. Add candy eggs: Place 3-4 mini candy eggs in the center of each nest, pressing lightly to stick. Sprinkle a pinch of sea salt on top if desired.
  6. Chill the nests: Refrigerate the tray for at least 30 minutes or until the chocolate has completely set and hardened.
  7. Serve or store: Remove nests carefully from parchment and serve immediately or store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to one week.

Notes

Use room temperature butter for smoother chocolate melting. Stir chocolate every 20 seconds when microwaving to avoid burning. Use parchment paper to prevent nests from sticking. Chill nests thoroughly to maintain shape and crunch. For vegan version, substitute dairy-free chocolate and butter and use vegan candy eggs or fresh fruit.
