A simple and delicious slow cooker ham recipe featuring a sweet and tangy honey mustard and maple glaze that keeps the meat juicy and flavorful, perfect for holiday meals.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 spiral-cut fully cooked ham, about 68 pounds
  • ½ cup honey (120 ml)
  • ¼ cup Dijon mustard (60 ml)
  • ⅓ cup pure maple syrup (80 ml)
  • 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar (30 ml)
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder (5 g)
  • ½ teaspoon ground black pepper (1 g)
  • ½ cup water or broth (120 ml)
  • Optional: pinch of ground cloves (about 1/8 teaspoon)
  • Optional: a few sprigs fresh rosemary or thyme

Instructions

  1. Remove your spiral-cut ham from its packaging and discard any plastic disks or netting. Place the ham flat side down in your slow cooker.
  2. In a mixing bowl, whisk together ½ cup honey, ¼ cup Dijon mustard, ⅓ cup maple syrup, 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar, 1 teaspoon garlic powder, and ½ teaspoon ground black pepper until smooth.
  3. Use a basting brush to generously coat the entire surface of the ham with the glaze.
  4. Pour ½ cup water or broth into the crockpot around the ham (not over the glaze) to keep the meat moist while cooking.
  5. Cover the slow cooker and cook on low for 4-5 hours. Check around hour 3 to baste the ham again with the glaze, spooning some of the cooking juices over the top.
  6. During the last 30 minutes, increase the slow cooker to high and add a bit more glaze on top to get a stickier, caramelized finish.
  7. Carefully remove the ham and transfer it to a cutting board. Let it rest for 10-15 minutes before slicing to lock in juices.

Notes

If glaze gets too thick during basting, thin with a splash of water. Spoon cooking liquid over dry spots to keep ham moist. Use a quality spiral-cut fully cooked ham for best results. Rest ham before slicing to lock in juices. For gluten-free, verify mustard and broth labels. Optional additions include ground cloves, fresh herbs, bourbon, cayenne pepper, or fruit chunks for variations.
