  • 6 ounces ground beef (80/20 blend preferred)
  • 1 large flour tortilla
  • 1 slice cheddar or pepper jack cheese
  • Leaf lettuce (romaine or butter lettuce)
  • Thin slices of tomato
  • Thinly sliced red onion (optional)
  • Sliced pickles
  • 1 tablespoon mayonnaise
  • Ketchup or your favorite burger sauce
  • Salt to taste
  • Black pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Slice the tomato, red onion, and pickles thinly. Rinse and dry lettuce leaves. Set aside cheese slices and tortillas.
  2. Divide 6 ounces of ground beef into a loose ball; do not pack tightly.
  3. Heat a non-stick or cast iron skillet over medium-high heat for 3-4 minutes until hot.
  4. Place the beef ball in the skillet and press down firmly with a spatula or burger press until the patty is about 1/4-inch thick. Hold for 10 seconds to set the shape.
  5. Immediately season the patty with salt and black pepper.
  6. Cook the patty undisturbed for 2-3 minutes until edges are brown and crispy.
  7. Flip the patty gently, place a slice of cheese on top, and cook for another 1-2 minutes until cheese melts and patty is cooked through.
  8. Warm the tortilla separately in a pan or microwave for about 15 seconds until soft and pliable.
  9. Spread mayonnaise and ketchup (or burger sauce) on the tortilla. Add lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles, then place the hot burger with melted cheese on top.
  10. Fold or roll the tortilla tightly and serve immediately.

Notes

Use medium-high heat and do not overcrowd the skillet to get a crispy crust. Press the beef only once to keep it juicy. Warm the tortilla separately to keep it soft and pliable. For vegetarian or dairy-free options, substitute ground meat and cheese accordingly.
