Refreshing Strawberry Basil Smash Mocktail - featured image

A quick and easy summer mocktail combining fresh strawberries, basil, lemon juice, simple syrup, and sparkling water for a refreshing, herbaceous drink perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup fresh strawberries, hulled and quartered
  • 810 fresh basil leaves
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons simple syrup (adjust to taste)
  • 1 cup (240 ml) sparkling water, chilled
  • Ice cubes
  • Optional garnishes: basil sprigs, sliced strawberries, lemon wedges

Instructions

  1. Wash and hull the strawberries, then quarter them. Wash the basil leaves and pat dry. Measure out lemon juice and simple syrup.
  2. In a mixing glass, add the quartered strawberries and basil leaves. Using a muddler, gently press and twist just enough to release the juices and oils without pulverizing the basil.
  3. Pour in the fresh lemon juice and simple syrup over the muddled fruit and basil. Stir gently to combine all flavors.
  4. Fill the mixing glass about halfway with ice cubes to chill the mixture.
  5. Pour in 1 cup (240 ml) of chilled sparkling water. Stir gently to mix without flattening the bubbles.
  6. Use a fine strainer to pour the mocktail into serving glasses filled with fresh ice, or pour directly for a rustic look with fruit bits. Garnish with a basil sprig and a sliced strawberry on the rim.
  7. Enjoy immediately to experience the best fizz and vibrant flavors.

Notes

Gently muddle basil to avoid bitterness. Use ripe strawberries for best flavor. Chill mixing glass and sparkling water for a crisp drink. Adjust sweetness and lemon juice to taste. Store muddled mixture separately if preparing ahead, add sparkling water and ice just before serving.
