Flaky, buttery pastry pockets stuffed with taco-seasoned filling, shaped like adorable ghosts. Perfect for Halloween parties or festive family dinners.

  • Pre-made pie crust or puff pastry
  • 1 lb lean ground beef (or ground turkey/plant-based crumbles)
  • 1 packet taco seasoning
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar or Mexican blend cheese
  • 1/2 cup finely diced onions
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 egg whisked with 1 tablespoon water (egg wash)
  • Sliced black olives for decoration

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Heat a skillet over medium heat. Add olive oil and sauté diced onions until softened, about 3 minutes.
  3. Add ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it up with a spatula. Stir in taco seasoning and cook for another 2 minutes. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
  4. Roll out pastry dough on a floured surface to about 1/8-inch thickness. Use a ghost-shaped cookie cutter to cut out an even number of ghost shapes.
  5. Place half of the ghost shapes on the prepared baking sheet. Spoon a small amount of taco filling onto the center of each shape, leaving a border around the edges. Sprinkle shredded cheese on top.
  6. Brush the edges of the ghost shapes with egg wash, then place another ghost shape on top. Press the edges together with a fork to seal.
  7. Decorate the ghosts by cutting small slits for eyes or placing black olive slices as eyes.
  8. Brush the tops of the pies with egg wash and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown.
  9. Let the pies cool for a few minutes before serving. Serve with sour cream, guacamole, or salsa for dipping.
