  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon sea salt
  • 1 cup (227g) unsalted butter, softened
  • ¾ cup (150g) brown sugar
  • ½ cup (100g) granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • 2 cups (340g) milk chocolate chunks
  • 1 cup (125g) chopped nuts (optional)
  • Flaky sea salt (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line two baking sheets with parchment paper and set aside.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, and sea salt. Set aside.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, cream together butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.
  4. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Mix in vanilla extract.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing just until combined.
  6. Gently fold in chocolate chunks and nuts if using.
  7. Using a cookie scoop or tablespoon, drop the dough onto the prepared baking sheets, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
  8. Sprinkle each cookie with a pinch of flaky sea salt if desired.
  9. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until the edges are golden brown but the centers are still slightly soft.
  10. Remove cookies from the oven and let them cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

Chill the dough for 20-30 minutes if it feels too soft to prevent excessive spreading. Experiment with chocolate types or add espresso powder for a flavor twist.
